Thien Mu Pagoda

Thien Mu Pagoda, also known as Linh Mu Pagoda, is one of the most beautiful and ancient architectural structures for worship in Hue. The pagoda is situated on Ha Khe Hill, on the left bank of the Perfume River, 4km southwest of Hue.
The pagoda, built in the 14th century, is connected to a legend with a fairy lady and was therefore named Thien Mu (fairy lady from heaven). The general structure of the pagoda is different from other pagodas found throughout the country. Yet, the most striking feature of the pagoda is its Phuoc Duyen Tower. The tower was built by Thieu Tri King in 1844 and has become the unofficial symbol of Hue. Each of its seven stories is dedicated to a Buddha who appeared in a human form. A Buddha statue is placed in small arch doors on each story.
There are few artifacts kept in the pagoda. The most precious ones seen today are a stele and a bronze bell. The stele is set n the back of a massive marble turtle, symbol of longevity. The bell called Dai Hong Chung is considered as one outstanding achievement in bronze casting in Vietnam in the 18th century.
