Hue
Lying at the mouth of the Perfume River, Hue has been one of the main cultural, religious and educational centres - Vietnam’s ancient Imperial Capital. Once disfigured and burnt by French colonists but with today’s restoration work and the status of a World Heritage site, Hue has been an important destination for visitors.
Today, Hue’s main attractions are the splendid toms of the Nguyen emperors, some notable pagodas and the remains of the Citadel. In May 2001, the first Festival of Hue was celebrated, with local and international cultural performers at locations throughout the city, and this is now a biennial event in the calendar.
