A hike on sometimes steep slopes will lead you high into the mountains, while taking time to learn about plants and animals of the area. Your local guides will show you how to collect wild herbs and vegetables for your dinner which will later be prepared over an open fire. You may want to learn how to traditionally cook with bamboo tubes, which is a special experience. Fall asleep in the darkness to the sounds of the forest and the babbling stream nearby. Alternatively, you may like to go wildlife spotting at night with the support of your local guide. Make sure that you bring along a strong flashlight or head lamp. Deep in the woods you will have a break for lunch. Here you wish farewell to your local village guide who returns to their village. Close to the river, this area boasts a wide variety of tree species in contrast to the more uniform bamboo groves seen before, giving you a chance to hear or even see monkeys. If not, the guide will point out signs of wildlife including bears, civets and wild boars which are present in the area, though highly elusive. Following a steep descent, you will arrive either at Ban Namkoy village of the Lanten tribe or Ban Nalantai, a Khmu village. Visits to these villages alternate in order to spread income evenly between each. Once in the village, the hosts prepare a dinner in the local style whilst you swim and bath in the river. After dinner you will have time to explore the village and meet some of the locals. You may have also interact with the villagers in the evening, or simply relax in the comfort of the wooden hut.
